I got this for hanging a paddleboard from the rafters in my garage. While the mounting brackets could have been designed to mount directly to a 2" wide rafter, they're made such that you need a wider surface. So, I had to put a pair of 2x6's across the rafters, then mount to that. The result is better distribution of the load, just that it required a little extra work. Another issue is that the mounting screws are made of very soft material, and even after drilling generous pilot holes, the phillips heads quickly stripped out before they got tight. Fortunately, the head also has a 10mm hex so you can drive it with a ratchet and socket. Last complaint; when installing 12' high as was my case, the rope isn't long enough to lower the far hook more than chest high. It was easy enough to tie on an additional piece of rope, but if they had made the existing one about 10' longer it would have been nice.Once installed, it works well to lift and secure the paddleboard. This particular board is about 45 lbs., and while hoisting it up wasn't exactly effortless, the block and tackle arrangement provides a 2:1 advantage which is helpful. It says it handles up to 125 lbs., and while I don't doubt it would take the weight, I think hoisting that amount would be quite challenging. The nicest feature of this device is the locking system. Once you have it all the way up and you bring the ropes to the wall to tie them off, a locking mechanism pinches the ropes at the double pulley. It seems surprisingly secure, so that when you tie the ropes off with the provided cleat, it's not putting all the load on the cleat. While I'd think twice about parking a priceless exotic car under it, I'll have no reservations about parking my Subaru there.
