I have Thule Pro-rack cross bars so the bolts that came with the j-bars (6Mx65mm) weren’t long enough. Bought some 1/4”x3.5” SS carriage bolts and nylon lock nuts to mount them. J-bars and straps worked great and were easy to install. Solid bars and my kayaks are locked down nice for long drives. Able to fit 4 kayaks up top on my truck. We bought two of these for our two kayaks to put on our Honda CRV. They fit perfectly, and although the first time it was a little tricky to get everything installed and strapped down, we are now much better at it. We've taken our kayaks on 3 trips now (the most recent was a 4 hour drive) and everything went well on the highway! For the money, this was a great deal.Just used 2 sets of these carriers to go on a family trip about 6 hours from home. It took a couple tries before getting them up onto the car and tied down became easy but once we had a system worked out, putting them up and down was a breeze - our teenagers were able to help. Also helpful - we bought a small collapsible step stool to keep in the the car so we could reach the top of the carrier brace. Once on the road the kayaks were very stable, even when driving 65mph. We did use bungy cords for extra front and back support when on the highway but didn't need them when driving on the local roads at 45mph. We did leave the carriers on the car top for the whole trip.Seems well built. A 275 mile round trip on 2 lane and dirt roads, hauling a 60 lb kayak on a Toyota Corolla with Thule cross bars, worked out just fine. Just remember to double check your straps from time to time. Its important to lash the boat down tightly. I used under-the-hood and under-the-trunk lid tie downs to securely fasten the bow and stern - helps prevent bobbing, which can loosen the main straps.A 600 mi round trip coming up soon. If anything untoward occurs, I'll repost.Rock solid so far. Seem to be high quality, even the tie downs and clutch buckles that come with. Bought 2 sets to put on my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee factory roof rack and they held strong through the cross-winds on highway. Only was worried for my factory crossbars which I need to check the weight rating on, they were bouncy with two kayaks mounted on these. Work real well.I drive a Corolla so looking sporty is sometimes difficult. These have literally put me into the same league as a Subaru Forester (the go-to for 50+ lady gardeners with floppy sun hats and Merrill shoes). At a glance, you'd think "why would he leave those on all year?" Waaaay after kayaking season, they can be used for transporting stuff like...Crown molding or boards on the way back from Lowe'sA nifty yard sale rug or carpet remnantsSkinny Xmas treesDon't let labels hold you back! This thing is as versatile as you are. <34 years of it being on my roof rack being taken off and put back on, no rust, no dry rotting, still as sturdy as day 1Looks just like it should. I haven't tried it's fit with a kayak yet. Unfortunately both of the included bolts are far too short for factory VW crossbars.M6x90mm Carriage Bolts should work, off to home depot...funny, I ordered these online to avoid a trip to the store.Update: Not SportRack's fault, VW has some proprietary T-rail system, which is stupid.Great product and well built, easy to use, and fits well.Would have been 5 stars if they had a proper loop on the bottom to run the tie down straps through instead of around the roof bars.Good rack, bought two sets because of the price. I have carried 2 - 10ft kayaks and a single tandem kayak.Wasn't sure it would hold the heavier longer tandem kayak but it managed, although I think for the larger kayak I might use foam blocks instead for longer trips it just seemed a little unstable. For 2 small kayaks, works great, once we got the process down, loading and unloading could be done in less than 15 minutes and the price was reasonable. It does everything I wanted it to, like hold my kayak. Delivered fast and quality is good. I would recommend it to friends.Works great for our Kayak. Like the way it cradles it.excellent seller. I recommand it!
